There have been some important changes in the scrap metal industry in the last few years, and as the number one scrap car and van purchase company in the Bloxham area, we take our legal responsibilities very seriously. The biggest change is that we can no longer pay cash for scrap metal, and we are obliged to check and record the identity of those who sell us scrap metal. Below you will find an overview of the new rules as well as the most frequently asked questions regarding our skip hire service. Call 01295 720286 for further information.

The Law

Cashless Trading became law in December 2012 as part of the Legal Aid, Sentencing and Punishing of Offenders Act, 2012. This law banned the use of cash in the scrap metal business in England and Wales. It is now a criminal offense to pay sellers in cash.

Additionally, The Scrap Metal Dealers Act (SMDA) makes it necessary to provide identification at point of sale a legal requirement. See the 'Cashless Trading' section on our Homepage for details of which forms of ID are necessary, and visit the BMRA website at http://www.recyclemetals.org/news for the latest information on the letter of the law.
